Polymers
By their nature, polymers and polyelectrolytes tend to be very sensitive to changes in their environment. QCM-D is successfully used to monitor build-up of polymer layers and polyelectrolyte multilayers and characterize them in terms of hydration/solvation, crosslinking and interaction with other molecules.
The modeling software enables quantification of thickness and viscoelastic properties of the layer.
