The performance of medical devices depends strongly on the interactions between the biomaterial and its physiological environment. The surface sensitive QCM-D technology is a useful evaluation tool, from studying build-up and structural properties of biomaterial coatings such as polyelectrolyte multilayers, to their compatibility with plasma proteins and cells.
